KVM Display Management – IHSE’s next generation of KVM for control rooms

More than ever, control room designers depend on display management systems for sharing data easily and securely.

Like the legacy KVM, the KVM display management systems (DMS) provide the bridge that allows users to control and switch between multiple PCs or servers via a single keyboard, mouse, plus utilizing multiple video monitors and sharing remote video sources from the local desktop.

The main difference being a DMS can be configured to support multiple monitors, multiviewers, or wall processors as well as supporting configurable EDID, adding multiple layers of security, and managing resolution compatibility to maintain image consistency across different types of display connector types.

DMS technology will play a pivotal role in both commercial and government control room applications. For both work-at-home and facility locations systems must be designed to be interoperable with other broadcast and A/V standards such as SMPTE ST-2110, NDI, IMPX and other standards being developed for video and data transmission over a LAN/WAN system. Latency and 4K60 will continue to be leading issues for manufactures to solve for their customer base as systems migrate away from traditional analog or coaxial-type systems. The PRO AV markets, like most others, is evolving rapidly and moving to a network-centric, cloud-based, infrastructure. DMS will also evolve and this is something that is being addressed with high frame rate extenders for gaming, high dynamic range for quality image processing and lower latency for 4K60 production studios.

The KVM-to-DMS concept is growing in popularity among both commercial and government organizations as an effective tool to expand accessibility of a physical computer remotely over a traditional network infrastructure. Utilizing advanced security protocols and regardless of operating systems the DMS (the next-gen KVM) design allows users to easily control source remotely while benefiting system administrators for remote maintenance, support and failure recovery.

kvm-tec Series Extenders for KVMoIP With 4K and Multiviewer Capabilities

kvm-tec’s Scalable Pro Line supports networked 4K multiviewer capabilities over a 10G network switch. It uniquely features the ability to control and manage up to 16 computer sources on a single display via a single keyboard and mouse. By simply moving the mouse inside the gridded cell and clicking, the operator has full control of the source. In addition, up to four Scalable receivers can be network-bonded to allow up to 64 sources across the four displays.

With the new kvm-tec Scalable Multiview Commander, up to 16 sources in full HD or 4K can be combined and displayed on a single 4K monitor and controlled via one mouse and keyboard. Compatible with standard 10G network switches and capable of supporting up to 2,000 endpoints, users can select any 16 sources and manage them directly via OSD menu shortcuts or directly through kvm-tec’s switching manager software.

Tera Web Control

Tera Web Control is the latest addition to IHSE’s KVM matrix series, enhancing connectivity for both single- and multi-console workstations commonly found in control room applications. In addition to fast hotkey and OSD menu control, which are particularly popular with power users, Tera Web Control simplifies the process of managing connections in an HTML-based graphical user interface.

Users can see how it operates similar to an external media controller with workstations represented on a layout mirroring the console arrangement and providing a visual indicator of their current switching states. With just three clicks, individual consoles can be switched reliably from a browser application. With a single click, multiple console workstations can be swiftly reconfigured using predefined presets. Access restrictions adhere to the matrix’s original administrative configuration. Custom layouts can be crafted effortlessly and without programming expertise.
