The IBC Accelerator Programme 2020 is set to culminate with eight diverse innovation project teams that have been driving solutions to complex business and technology challenges over the last five months, and are set to reveal the outcomes through proof of concept demonstrations and discussions during IBC’s digital ‘Showcase’ online series from 8th-11 September 2020.
With remote collaboration and open R&D at its core, the Accelerator Programme is an IBC-led framework for agile innovation, fuelled by challenges set out by project ‘Champions’ who are content providers such as broadcasters, studios, news agencies and content platforms. The eight Accelerator projects include:
• 5G Remote Production
• TV Delivered as Objects
• AI Assisted Shot List Creation of Video Assets
• AI in Live Content Moderation
• CG Animation Production: New Immersive & Real-Time Workflows
• Usable VFX Archive
• Virtual & Interactive Live Music Talent Show
• 5G Centralised Streaming for Location-based Virtual Reality (LBVR)
The goal of this programme is to provide a supportive and trusted environment to foster innovation across the sector, finding solutions to challenges that any one organization cannot easily solve by themselves.
For the first time in its history, IBC will present its highest award, the International Honour for Excellence, not to a single individual or organization, but to the news broadcasters of the world. The award comes in recognition for the key role journalists have played in educating and informing audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, while operating under extremely challenging conditions.
The IBC2020 International Honour for Excellence, will feature in a special programme, shown in the virtual IBC Showcase and hosted by BBC World News’ Kasia Madera. The BBC’s Health Editor, Fergus Walsh will deliver a speech as part of a specially produced video featuring contributions from the leading news organizations, including the BBC; CNN; ITV News on behalf of ITN; NBC Global News; TV Globo; and Zee TV.
The award will be presented in a live stream on Friday, 11 September at 13:00 BST.
