Mirakulo: Shaping the Next Generation of Digital TV with AstroTV NEXT, Pioneering the Brazilian DTV+ Implementation

David Britto, the founder and CEO of Mirakulo, has been leading the company since 2017. His involvement in the Digital TV market dates back to 2006, during the early discussions about adopting the Japanese standard for TV 2.0 in Brazil.

David was not only an active member of the Brazilian Forum for Digital TV (SBTVD Forum) but was also the Technology Director of TQTVD, the software company that developed the first commercial implementation of the Ginga standard for DTV interactivity.

‘At Mirakulo, we are deeply committed to developing, evolving, and promoting AstroTV as the best Ginga implementation on the market’, Britto said to Prensario. ’We’re proud to be the leading choice in Brazil and several other ISDB-T markets. What truly sets us apart is our strong relationships with key industry players, including major Brazilian broadcasters and leading TV set and chipset manufacturers in Asia’.

Mirakulo was founded with a strong spirit of technological innovation, inspired by the adoption of Brazil’s Digital TV 2.0, which was considered the world’s most advanced digital TV standard in 2006. ‘Since then, TVs have significantly evolved, becoming smarter and more connected. In response, our software solutions have also advanced to meet the demands of current TV 2.5 platforms, where broadcast and broadband content are seamlessly integrated, offering viewers a personalized experience with features like VoD, interactive content, dynamic advertising, and more. Given our expertise, it’s only natural for Mirakulo to play a key role in shaping the new TV 3.0 specification, working alongside the SBTVD Forum to create yet another world-leading digital TV standard’, Britto explained.

Consulted about their priorities for the next few months, the executive response: ‘Our primary goal is to assist the Forum members in finalizing the new specifications for the TV 3.0 standard, now known as DTV+. We’ve already begun working on our DTV+ implementation, so our top priority is to launch the first receiver that’s fully compatible with this new standard. We’re putting in a lot of effort to make that happen’.

‘Our primary objective is to deliver the first full Brazilian DTV+ software stack to the market, AstroTV NEXT, which will also be compatible with ATSC3.0. To achieve this goal, we’re focused on strengthening our relationships with broadcasters, manufacturers, and universities. Collaboration with these key partners will be essential to reaching our target’.

Also in relation to their presence at IBC, Britto said: ‘Our top priority is to launch the first receiver that’s fully compatible with DTV+. At IBC, we aim to engage with manufacturers (ODMs & OEMs) and chipset vendors to collaborate on developing DTV+ compatible products. We’re looking forward to building strong partnerships to bring this new standard to life’.
